Leading economist Ross Garnaut says the federal government’s $15bn infrastructure budget should be used to help us process the raw materials that the world wants from us. In an exclusive report in science publication COSMOS, Professor Garnaut says we should be using zero emissions hydrogen to be powering the processing of our iron ore, aluminium, nickel, copper, and lithium. They’re products that the world desperately wants to make everything from buildings to electric cars. We have the raw materials here but, in most cases, are not processing them into their finished form.
